Red Rubin Basil (Ocimum Basilicum Purpurascens)

Red Rubin Basil (Ocimum Basilicum Purpurascens)

Red Rubin Basil (Ocimum Basilicum Purpurascens) is an aromatic, flavorful, and sweet type of basil that features deep dark reddish purple leaves. In the warmer summer months, small pink flowers begin to appear.

This unique variety of basil grows to be about 18 to 24 inches tall with beautiful leaves that are somewhat jagged around the edges. The plant grows well in the sun with a well drained but moist soil.

The leaves have a flavor with notes of cloves and is also sweet like sweet basil. When cooked, red rubin basil loses its beautiful purple color so it is often used raw in salads, added to vinegar, or used as a garnish.
